Jim Baer is the President of CMBG Advisors, Inc. as well a founding partner of Baer, Negrin & Troff, LLP where he continues to work closely with its attorneys in restructuring transactions for CMBG.

My Story

Jim’s legal practice experience includes serving as outside general counsel and as a leading business advisor to a wide variety of companies and individuals. Jim has been closely involved in financing for both venture capital firms and their portfolio companies.


From corporate strategizing to protecting legal needs, Jim is equipped to navigate companies through sensitive, high-profile restructuring matters with efficiency and empathy. Moreover, his legal background provides him with a unique perspective merging ethical and business expertise. Jim is frequently engaged to advise and guide businesses, board of directors, and individuals on corporate matters, including loan transactions, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring transactions, and corporate securities issues.


In addition to his legal practice, Jim has served as an executive officer and a business advisor for companies in a wide range of industries. Bringing charisma, intelligence, and exposure to a wide variety of conflicts, Jim also has extensive experience as a mediator and is skilled at dispute resolutions.
Prior to founding Baer, Negrin & Troff, LLP, Jim was head of the Corporate Department of Katten, Muchin & Zavis in the Los Angeles office. Previous to that, he practiced with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP, a Los Angeles-based law firm with multiple domestic and international offices.


Jim also holds a B.A. in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a J.D. from Loyola Law School. He is an active member of the American Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Additionally, Jim is a past member of the Corporations Committee for the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California.
